When I meet a new colleague and we plan to meet again for lunch, I always ask if they are an adventurous eater. This question typically engenders the response “what do you mean by adventurous?”

To this, I respond that it means you enjoy eating at holes in the wall, off the beaten track places that may feature ethnic food. Those who respond YES are typically invited to join me at India’s Grill, (the Indian buffet restaurant that had previously been located within the BP Gas Station at Kennedy and Westshore) or Sa Ri One, the Korean BBQ place you have passed hundreds of times on West Cypress but were afraid to go in!

Today I am writing to say that one of my holes in the wall, India’s Grill, has gone mainstream on me. They have left the gas station for a better restaurant footprint, with much better parking and access. Their new home is at 3437 W. Kennedy Blvd. Who wouldn’t prefer to sample the Indian buffet within the confines of a gas station? There was something synchronistic about that.

I must add that the restaurant was the only Indian restaurant worth visiting south of Waters Ave. The buffet was frequented by many Indians/Pakistanis as well as people like me that love Indian food. Their specialty was curry goat and before you say “Ew” you really need to try it! Remember, this place is for adventurous eaters. The food is “wipe your upper lip and forehead” spicy.

You know I am a real fan of Indian food since they named their bread after me, Naan. Next time, suggest either of these two places and I will jump at the chance to join you.
